3. Only a minority (16.6%) of fluid challenges were monitored using a non-invasive cardiac output monitoring tool, suggesting that response to fluid challenge may often be assessed subjectively rather than objectively.
4. Patients who received fluid challenges had a higher risk of developing pulmonary edema and acute kidney injury.
Despite the widespread use of fluid challenges, this study suggested there is insufficient standardized practice guidelines in this area, thus prompting the need for further research to establish best protocol and therapy management. |
